A magazine paper, paper bag or a graph paper can be the alternatives used for origami paper. Below are some easy to follow steps to make an origami business card holder of your own.

Step 1: Cut a Square:

To create an origami business cardholder, use an origami paper of size 8 ½ inch dimensionally, to make a fine square. Cut down the square. Alternatively, you can use a patterned wrapping sheet to make a square. If you use a 9-inch square sheet of paper, you can use a cardholder to give a gift card, avoiding the time to fold and origami card envelop. Tie a ribbon in the shape of the bow around the case to give a decorative look. Another option is to use 12 inch square of scrapbook paper to carry store rewards and coupons on a shopping trip.

Step 2: Fold into Fourths:

To initiate with making an origami business card holder, start using patterned side or your paper facing down and colored or white side facing up. Fold the paper into equal halves, crease well and then unfold them. Afterwards, fold the right and left corners inside to meet the central crease. Again crease well then unfold.

Step 3: Making Small Triangles:

Fold down all the corners to make small triangles. The triangle edges should touch the outer crease made in step 1.

Step 4: Folding in the Sides and Flip:

Next step includes folding the left and right sides inside to meet the central crease. Flip over the paper. Fold the bottom up.

Step 5: Folding the Second Flap:

Fold the top of the paper down so that it slightly overlaps the previous section you folded. The bottom edge is tucked in diagonal flaps. This will ensure proper closing of origami business card holder without a need for glue or tape.

Step 6: Project Variation:

Now you have 2 options, if you want to display business cards in an upright manner, straight away fold the flap from step 4 in the opposite direction, making a second crease owing the top horizontal edge of that flap to meet the paper. Once you have placed few business cards inside, it will stand upright. The second option, if you do not want to display business cards, tuck a wallet-sized photo in the flaps, pushing them together tightly. It will turn into a simple picture frame.
